It’s Been A Long Week

Hello! Are you happy, maybe relieved, perhaps excited, to see something at the top of this blog besides quinoa? I know, I know, it’s been awhile, two weeks to be exact, without a post. More seasoned bloggers out there are judging and saying to themselves: The novelty has worn off, posts are growing less frequent, it’s only a matter of time….

Not so fast. I have my reasons. I moved. Last weekend my roommates and I packed up the apartment we’ve lived in for three years. Jen and I moved into a new place with Ashley, and Sarah (a.k.a. Bride-to-Be) moved into a house that she’ll soon be sharing with a boy. Right now everyone is pretty much settled – aside from the boxes of pantry items in our living room, and Sarah’s lack of living room furniture. But life didn’t look this way a week ago. At that point Jen and I were packing up the kitchen and finding things we didn’t know we had, like an egg poacher and five wine openers. By the time we were done (or so we thought) we had eight boxes of just kitchen stuff going to the new place. Did I mention we live in an apartment?

It wouldn’t be a lie to say that I grossly underestimated the work involved in moving. I’m exhausted, sore and still finding new bruises on my legs. This, and we even had real movers with a truck, plus moms, dads and siblings and Emily (THANK YOU!) chipping in.

Yes, it was a lot of work. I’ll let you use your imagination as to how the rest of packing up the old place and painting (yes, we painted) and unpacking at the new one went….

We left the old place looking like we’d never been there though – except for the last two drawers of bakeware and cocktail napkins I discovered just before turning in the keys. How we missed those when we were packing the kitchen, I don’t know. As for the new place, it looks fantastic, if I do say so myself. I’m sure you’ll catch some glimpses in the background of pictures in posts to come. We have, I suppose what you’d call, faux granite countertops (a step up from the white) and we decorated with a sort of french-country look. It’s cozy. We like it. And have decided we’re never moving again.

The other night we unpacked the kitchen (8 boxes plus Ashley’s 4) and found new homes for our gizmos and gadgets, which will be put to good use soon. After a week of takeout it’s about time for some home cooking (which I’ll soon be sharing with you here).

I know this post is really a sorry attempt to make up for the two weeks of Megg Salad neglect, so here’s a link to Real Simple’s article debunking cooking myths. Is that better?

And, since it’s Halloween here’s a picture of the  cookies my teammate Cindy baked, decorated and brought to work. They’re as delicious as they are beautiful. Incredible, right?
